Scenes of Pietrasanta

Pietrasanta was a surprising little town on the Ligurian coast.  We stopped off here for a couple of nights on our way from Lucca to Vernazza.  The local specialty is sculpture and you will find sculpture workshops, museums and plenty of contemporary sculpture places all over the town.

The room in our little B&B "La Sosta degli Artisti".  This was a perfect place to stay while visiting Pietrasanta.  The lady who runs the place is outstandingly helpful and quite a good cook!  You can check out more about the hotel and make reservations here: http://sostadegliartisti.com/en/
.

View out of the window with the old fort up on the hill.
Just next door to the B&B, this cafe has inexpensive and tasty food.  The young couple who own it are very friendly.
Unique hay bale street siding is sprouting!
The Gelato shop next to the B&B had the BEST gelato we had in 5 weeks of traveling around Italy.

They were having their annual festival of San Martino the weekend we were there. He is the patron saint of the town. The party was all day and lasted until 10:00 pm Saturday and Sunday.

You can see additional video of the festival here: San Martino Festival - Pietrasanta, Italy

This nice lady spoke English and made us an excellent "porchetta" sandwich.

We bought dried strawberries from this dude. They are called "fragole" in this picture.

Path up to the old fort and scenic overlook.
Of course we had to have the typical "spritz" while watching the festival goers...

Slabs of marble quarried for sculptures

We walked 3 miles to see the beach. Watched this guy catch a flounder and then got rained on.

When the rain started, we hoofed it down to this pier about another mile away .

Stood under the pier watching the surfers while waiting out the rain.

There are sculptures everywhere you go in Pietrasanta.

San Martino festival Sunday night .

Had a great dinner at Quarantuno. Carol had a bit too much of this Prosecco..:-)

I had sea bass with crisped slices of black truffle and Carol had wild boar with papardelle pasta. Tiramisu and coffee for desert.
