This church was originally begun in the 6th century. The mosaic facade on the front was done from the 13th to the 14th century. St. Frediano was the Irish Bishop of Luca. The church had originally been dedicated to St. Vincenzo, but when Frediano died and was interred here, it was renamed. Expansion continued up through the 18th century but most of the structural work was done in the 16th century. St. Zita, you will see her body in a photo below, was a household maid to a wealthy Lucca family and lived from 1218 to 1278. She is the saint of flowers and charity.
